Rally Finland 2008 - Tips
The weather can change quite quickly from hot summer weather to quite cool so a variety of clothing is useful. The stages became quite dusty as the loose surfaces and dry weather combined to produce dust clouds after each car on some stages. If possible stand upwind on the stages. Access to the stages is excellent with wide access roads but for later arrivals you will have to walk considerable distances on some stages. The budget airlines fly in to Tampere approximately 100 miles from Jyvaskyla (the base of the rally). The road between the two towns has numerous speed cameras that are not easily seen and the road surface does not have measuring strips. It is therefore unwise to break the speed limits and we would never condone doing so. If you have booked into the Rentukka (Summer hotel) it's a good idea to know where you heading for. The Rentukka uses the University Campus buildings but if you do not know where it is hard to find and signs are not visible from the road. One competitor was excluded from the event for exceeding the speed limit. If you do have spare time in Tampere the City has a number of museums (not open on Mondays). Sarjanniemi Adventure park is worth a visit if you enjoy theme parks it's a curious mix of dolphin show, theme park, design museum, and observation tower.![]() | ![]() | ![]() |
