Sordo and Marti to star on Rallye Cantabria
Dani Sordo and Marc Marti will open the road on the Rallye Cantabria Infinita in Spain from May 15-16 aboard their Citroen C4 WRC. Before heading off to the Rallye d’Italia-Sardegna, which takes place next weekend from May 21-24, the Spanish crew now has the chance to drive some asphalt stages close to home in Cantabria.

In total, the Citroën crew will face eight special stages in Cantabria, totalling 165.58 competitive kilometres. Nonetheless, Dani and Marc will have nothing to prove on the event as their Citroën C4 WRC will open the road as zero car ahead of the other competitors. This event will hardly be a new challenge for Dani either, as he already has three participations under his belt. « We’re just taking part in this rally for fun, » explained Dani Sordo. « Marc and I know the area well, and this region is also where I took my first steps in motorsport. Another reason why I know the roads around here is thanks to my participation on this rally in the past, not to mention my two Cantabrian Rally Championship titles in 2002 and 2003. I’m going back to my roots in many ways this weekend, so I’m delighted if our presence here can help give all the local spectators something special to remember. It’s also a way of thanking everyone for all the support I had at the beginning of my career. »

Their Citroën C4 WRC will be prepared by PH-Sport and will carry the white and red regional colours of Cantabria. Dani and Marc will be backed by Citroën Spain, Auto Gomas – a well-known Citroën team that supported Dani Sordo when he was younger – Santander Bank, the Comillas foundation and the La Roca circuit. Dani Sordo last appeared on the Rallye Cantabria Infinita in 2005, at the wheel of a Citroën.

This year, all the stages are to the east of Torrelavega – Dani’s home town – and to the south east of Santander.

Dani will have the privilege of driving Miguel Angel Revilla, the President of the Cantabrian regional Government, for a taste of the asphalt stages on Friday. All the competitive action then takes place the following day. On Sunday, Dani and Marc will subsequently set off for the Mediterranean island of Sardinia, which hosts the sixth round of the World Rally Championship, where they will be aiming to defend their current second place in the overall standings.

Dani concluded: « Most of the World Rally Championship events we have this year are on gravel. So the Rallye Cantabria Infinita will be a really good opportunity for us to drive the Citroën C4 WRC again on asphalt. With the next asphalt round being Catalunya in October, the driving conditions are likely to be very similar to the roads we will experience as zero car this weekend. »
