Victory for Dunkeswell in Council noise dispute
Venue operators across the country have welcomed a significant victory for the sport following the news that East Devon District Council (EDDC) has withdrawn its case against Mansell Raceway Limited, owners of the South West’s Dunkeswell kart track after a two and a half year legal battle.

EDDC had challenged a ruling by the District Judge who in November 2008 had quashed a noise abatement order served by the District Council’s Environmental Health team following complaints from neighbours.

MSA enjoys productive weekend at Silverstone
July’s British Grand Prix was a great success, heralding the start of a new 17-year contract for the circuit and a revised track layout for the Northamptonshire venue. Despite not having a home winner to celebrate, the 300,000 attendees over the weekend went home having enjoyed a fabulous weekend of racing and entertainment, as well as favourable weather.

For the MSA, the Grand Prix is the annual showpiece event of the season and as such it provides a vital platform to talk with key people about the development of the sport. As usual, a number of MPs joined the MSA on the Sunday, including the new Sports Minister, Hugh Robertson MP. On Sunday morning, Mr Robertson met with Ron Dennis, Chairman of the McLaren Group, before being driven around the circuit in the FIA Medical Car alongside the new FIA President Jean Todt.

Hugh Robertson has shown himself to be a strong supporter of the MSA’s work and once again praised the efforts being made by the governing body in the development of the sport and the various initiatives that make up the Whole Sport Plan.

On Saturday, the MSA welcomed guests from a number of national governing bodies of other sports, including the Royal Yachting Association, the Football Association and the British Olympic Association, as well as representatives from SkillsActive, the government agency behind the MSA’s Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence.

Reflecting on the weekend, MSA Chief Executive Colin Hilton said: “The Grand Prix provides us with an ideal opportunity to talk to some key influencers that will assist the MSA’s activities in the coming months, both in terms of developing the sport and also making sure that as a sport we are receiving the recognition that we deserve.”
