Opel Corsa OPC S2000 for Course Car at Cork 20 Rally
Motor Sport Developments has confirmed that it will run the Opel Corsa OPC S2000 as course car at Cork 20 International Rally in Ireland taking place on the 27-28 September. The Opel Corsa OPC S2000 will be homologated on 1st October in readiness for the 2009 competition season.

David Whitehead, MSD Managing Director confirmed: “The Cork 20 will be the first public outing for the Corsa OPC S2000. The opportunity arose and we thought it a great chance to show the car off as well as do some more testing. The car has been testing is extremely well so far, but there is nothing like getting the car out there on a real rally to accelerate the development process.” Irish rally veteran Austin MacHale, will celebrate the 25th anniversary of his first international rally victory of the 1983 Cork 20 International Rally by driving the allnew Opel Corsa as course car.

Austin MacHale said: “It was 25 years ago that I won the Cork 20 Rally driving a Vauxhall Chevette which launched my international career and today, 25 years later, I am very happy to be driving the Opel Corsa OPC S2000 on the very same rally. Vauxhall and Opel are part of the same GM family with whom I won two of my five Irish International Rally Championships in an Opel Manta 400. It’s great to be back in the family!”

Whitehead said, “Austin has been a partner in the Opel Corsa OPC programme from day one and it is only fitting that he should celebrate the 25th anniversary of his first international victory in an Opel and at the Cork 20. It is great to be working with Austin again who I regard as one of the best Irish drivers we’ve seen.“

Whitehead continued, “The Opel Corsa OPC S2000 has come along just at the right time as the Super 2000 category is booming and set to become the foundation of the World Rally Championship with the Super 2000 Plus category. We have been inundated with drivers and teams who want to get on the S2000 bandwagon and others who want to be part of Opel’s return to rally – a good job we already have a large number of Corsa’s in build for championships in 2009!”
