Stobart secure Duval for Japan and GB outings
François Duval has been confirmed as Gigi Galli’s replacement in the Stobart VK M-Sport Ford rally team for the remaining two gravel events in this year’s FIA World Rally Championship. The Belgian will continue to be partnered by Patrick Pivato as the pair tackle Rally Japan and Wales Rally GB in a Stobart liveried Ford Focus RS WRC07.Duval’s addition to the side comes at a pivotal point in the championship where every point is vital as the Stobart team looks to climb up the Manufacturers’ standings with just four events remaining in the 2008 calendar.
The deal will see Duval as a nominated point scoring driver for the Stobart team on Rally Japan when he pairs up with team-mate Matthew Wilson in November. With Henning Solberg back in the Stobart squad for Rally GB, and the addition of Scottish driver Barry Clark to the outfit, a decision on the nomination of point scorers for that event will be made closer to the December date.
Duval is no stranger to either event competing on Rally GB no fewer than six times with a best result of second in 2005. He has contested the Asian event two times prior with his best finish coming in 2005 with a commendable fourth overall.
