Fiesta Sporting Trophy International

ADAC Rally Deutschland, 19 August 2007

Final Report

Stobart Motorsport’s Barry Clark and co–driver Scott Martin have claimed their first ever international championship by winning the 2007 Fiesta SportingTrophy International at this weekend’s ADAC Rally Deutschland.

Clark has shown a phenomenal dominance over the FSTi series winning all five rounds this year, powering to championship victory leaving two rounds to spare. The Scotsman’s ability to drive these 2 litre GpN Ford Fiesta STs to their full potential was again highlighted here when he powered to FST victory and finished second in the N3 class just one minute from the top class spot.

It has been an outstanding display all year with the 25–year–old proving he has what it takes by owning this ultra–competitive one–make championship. Of the many competitors to have attempted an FSTi round this year, which includes eight different nationalities, none have been able to match the master Clark.

Rally Germany’s 356.27 competitive stage kilometres were a mere walk–in–the–park for Clark as he coasted through with no major problems. His Stobart Fiesta ST however got to experience gravity in its element when Clark hit the famous Panzerplatte jump flat–out, nearly throwing the car right over itself. Despite a hard landing on the nose the car incurred only minimal cosmetic damage and did not effect his stunning time over the test.

Proving un–moved by the scare Clark hit back on the second pass of the 30.55 kilometre stage, the longest of the event, reiterating his speed by steering to the fastest N3 time against several, higher–powered, GpN rally cars.

Clark and his DGM–run team have had a superb year, consistently keeping the car on the road and out of trouble. Both Clark and Martin will now head back to Britain with the well deserved title of 2007 Fiesta SportingTrophy International Champions.

Barry Clark said:
"It feels fantastic to finally win the championship. It’s just been a dream year and I never thought I could win every event, not with the depth on international competition on offer. Germany felt like a walk–in–the–park, we had no problems at all and I felt very comfortable in the car on all the stages. The only moment we had was the jump on Panzerplatte which nearly had us going right over the handle bars! Fortunately the Fiesta took the impact on the front and we had no problems as a result. It was an enjoyable rally and we gained lots of experience from it which is what we need to keep doing."
