Rally Portugal Preview 2007.
The rally of Mexico set Marcus Gronholm off with a 4 point lead in the Drivers standings even though he wanted to leave North America with a victory. The Fin came to Portugal with tremendous amount of confidence and with plans to edge out and get a further lead with a good result here.

Mikko Hirvonen arrived in Portugal with just two points behind Loeb in the championship standings. Hirvonen like his team mate would love to win here and add more drivers points to get ahead of Loeb in the driver's standings. Hirvonen's tactics for the weekend will be to keep up with Citroen's Dani Sordo to keep Ford at the top of the manufactures championship.

Sordo on the other hand is still trying to get to grips with the C4. The Spanish showed that he was able to keep up with the Fords, but could not do this in the rally of Mexico on the gravel. Sordo is looking to finish in front of Hirvonen in Portugal to help Citroen in the Manufacture championship.

Petter Solberg was pleased with the pace that he set in Mexico despite mechanical problems that forced him to retire after leading the opening leg. The new Impreza has proved itself to be suitable for the Portuguese conditions. After his less than ideal start to the 2007 season Solberg is still looking for a podium place.

Young Chris Atkinson is actually ahead of his teammate Petter in the driver's standings. The Australian who now has the benefit of a rally's worth of experience in his new Impreza WRC, wants to finish the rally in a solid position to move Subaru ahead of the Stobart Team in the manufacturers standing, so Subaru are looking to lead this weekend's rally.

Henning Solberg and Jari-Matti Latvala have a big challenge in front of them in this weekends rally. The Stobart team would love to come away from the rally still controlling their position in the manufactures standings but both drivers will need to fight against the Subaru boys for every last point.

Following an accident involving Pablo Perez Companc the brothers of Munchi's Ford Rally Team driver Luis and Juan Pablo Raies' co-driver Jorge Perez Companc, the Argentinean team will not compete in this weekend's rally, the team will however return to the competition, in their home event Rallye Argentina.
